Access To The Hospital
Patients may be dropped off or picked up at the main entrance. Cars can wait at the entrances for a maximum of five minutes and preferably be attended at all times. Wheelchairs can be obtained from reception. During after hours please present to the maternity entrance with identification. There is no maternity entrance only a main entrance.
Accreditation
Hurstville Private is fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards. This is professional and national recognition of our high standard of care and ongoing commitment to quality improvement.
Car Parking
Limited off street parking is available in our basement area, entry is via Millett street.
2 Hours street parking is available in Gloucester Road and Pearl Street.

Flowers
Flowers, floral arrangements and gifts sent to you will be delivered to you by staff. Regrettably, we ask that visitors do not send potted plants.
Food/Alcohol Brought Into Hospital
Whilst you are a patient in our hospital, alcohol should only be consumed with your doctor’s approval. Visitors are asked not to supply patients with alcohol without permission. A breach of these guidelines may be detrimental to your health. Illegal drugs are not to be brought into the hospital by patients or visitors. These substances may adversely react with hospital medicines.
Due to food safety regulations, we discourage patients and visitors from bringing in food from outside the hospital. No responsibility will be taken for the consumption of food not provided by the hospital. Please check with the nursing staff prior to consuming food not provided by the hospital.
Health and Safety
Hurstville Private is committed to continuously improving the management and standards of workplace health and safety. This commitment also extends to all patients and visitors who enter and use the facilities at any campus.
Patients and visitors are required to comply with all instructions in order to protect their health and safety whilst at the hospital. A visitor is any person entering the premises of Hurstville Private, such as visiting medical officers, external medical providers/ carers, relatives, parents, children, friends and any member of the general public.
Hospital Staff
All staff members are required to wear photographic identification badges. All nursing and support staff wear a corporate uniform and can be identified by shirt colour:
Administration - white shirts
Nursing and Midwifery - teal and lilac striped shirts
Hotel services - blue striped shirts
Management - black and grey shirts
Interpreter
An interpreter is available if required. Please call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131450 prior to admission.
Café
There is a cafe inside the main entrance to the hospital on Gloucester Road. The cafe offers a range of food, snacks, biscuits and cakes as well as magazines, newspapers and sundry items. Vending machines for soft drinks and snacks are also available.
Laundry
Patients should arrange laundering of their personal clothing with family / friends.

Meals
Great care has been taken to provide our patients with an extensive, nutritious and varied menu. Special diets for medical, religious or personal reasons can be arranged in consultation with the nursing staff. Please advise the nursing or pre-admission staff if you have any special requirements.
Additional meals can be requested for some visitors. Please note a charge will apply and will be added to your account.

Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care is available for the support of patients and their families. To arrange a visit please ask the nursing staff.
Personal Items
The Hospital is unable to accept responsibility for your personal possessions, such as jewellery, large sums of cash, or electrical equipment including laptop computers and video cameras. To prevent the loss of belongings we strongly recommend that you bring only essential items that you need for your stay. We suggest that you clearly label your belongings with your full name.
If you wear dentures, please ask the nursing staff to supply you with a labelled denture cup for storage. We recommend that you do not wrap dentures in tissues or place them under a pillow as your dentures may get lost or damaged.
Please do not bring the following items into hospital:
- Electric blankets
- Hot water bottles and wheat packs. (You may wish to bring Gel packs for heat therapy. The use of hot water bottles and heat packs is not permitted.)
- Mobile telephones
- Pets
- Valuables, including jewellery
Public Transport
There is a bus stop across the road from the Hospital that services Hurstville. Connecting trains and buses leave from Forest Road in the centre of Hurstville.
Residential Medical Officers
There are Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) on duty 24 hours a day.
Smoking
A designated smoking area is available for use between the hours of 6.00am and 9.00pm. Please ask staff for directions. Smoking outside these hours is not permitted. Assistance with transfer from the ward to the designated smoking area will need to be sought from family members and friends as staff are not permitted to provide assistance.
Students: Medical, Nursing, Allied Health
Hurstville Private supports medical, nursing and allied health student education. Medical, nursing and allied health students may be present during your hospital stay. If you do not wish students to be involved in your care please advise the nursing staff.
Taxis
A number of taxi companies are available to provide transportation. Please ask Reception to phone on your behalf.
Telephones (Except Day Surgery)
Each bed is supplied with a personal telephone, with direct access to local, mobile and STD calls. Calls to mobile telephones and STD/ISD calls will be charged to your account and are payable on discharge.
We request that you refrain from using your own mobile telephone within the hospital as it may interfere with some medical equipment.
Television (Except Day Surgery)
Free to air channels are available.
Visiting Hours
Day Surgery:
To maximise care for all patients, only one support person may visit in Day Surgery. One parent (or Carer) per child may stay with the child during the entire Day Surgery stay.
General Wards:
10.00 am – 12 midday and 2.00 pm – 8.00 pm
Maternity Unit:
2.00 pm – 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm
There is unrestricted visiting all day until 8.00 pm for immediate family members (partners and children only).
