Overnight Admissions
Pre-Admission Clinic
You may be asked to attend a pre-admission clinic. It is conducted for joint replacement and for major surgery. The clinic is staffed by an experienced Registered Nurse who will:
- Talk to you about your care before and after surgery
- Check your health history and complete other admission paperwork
- Organise blood tests and other tests that may be ordered by your doctor
- Commence discharge planning to help you plan for your return home
- Answer any questions you may have about your hospital stay
By attending the clinic not only do you know what to expect whilst in hospital but it helps to ensure that your admission on the day of your surgery is well planned and organised.
Medicines
Before admission to hospital please let your doctor know what medicines you are taking including prescription, non-prescription, and complementary medicines (including creams, eye drops, puffers, vitamins, herbal preparations, etc).
It is important that your doctor and the hospital staff know exactly what medicines you are taking as medicines can adversely react with one another and affect your treatment. Your doctor can then tell you which medicines you need to stop before your surgery (if any) and when to stop taking them.
Please bring all your medicines in their original packaging into the hospital with you (even if you use a Webster/Blister pack). This ensures the medicines you take are available when you need them.
Time And Date Of Admission
Your procedure will be scheduled by your specialist. Operating lists are carefully planned, however emergencies do occur and the operating list may need to be changed at short notice. You will be kept informed of any changes or delays as they occur.
Please telephone the Day Surgery on 9579 7709 or 9579 7757 between 2pm and 4pm on the last business day before your surgery to confirm your admission time and fasting time and also to receive advice regarding your usual medications.
